Self Discovery After Alcohol Coaching and Mentoring

About RJ

Hey there! I'm your go-to guy for alcohol-free living! As a seasoned lived experience educator, I've learned a thing or two about the ins and outs of life without alcohol.

I've been sober for 10 years now, and let me tell you, quitting drinking took some serious stubbornness! But hey, sometimes being an asshole has its advantages!

I grew up in Wisconsin for 35 years, where beer is practically a food group, so I know a thing or two about the drinking culture. But after 10 years as a high voltage line tech foreman, a divorce, and a diagnosis of ADHD at 33, I decided to shift gears and make a change. Learning to feel my emotions at 35 was a trip, but it's been worth it.

As the host of a podcast about sobriety and mental health for over 3 years, I've connected with people from all walks of life who are looking to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. And let me tell you, moving across the country to Virginia for my family was a real adventure! But creating a community that fosters connection and support for those on their journey to sobriety is what I'm all about.

Now, I won't pretend that I've got everything figured out. I still struggle with self-worth, even though people see me as successful. But rising from the ashes of my life 4 times has taught me that embracing fear is the key to growth and change. And hey, trying new things isn't just a strength, it's a joy!

So, if you're ready to make a change and start living your best alcohol-free life, I'm your guy! Let's work together to create a customized plan that works for you, because you don't have to do this alone.

I have maintained a commitment to not drinking alcohol for over 10 years, during which I have abstained from alcohol and all non-prescribed, mind-altering substances. This clarity of mind is integral to how I show up as my best self—embodying integrity, curiosity, creativity, and quirkiness.

In 2019, I was diagnosed with ADHD. In 2022, under the guidance of my physician, I began taking medication for my ADHD and continue to use it today. While I recognize that my knowledge about substances and their potential benefits is not exhaustive, I commit to being open and transparent should I choose to use any additional substances.

My approach is rooted in empathy and non-judgment. I meet people where they are, understanding that personal growth is a journey. Therefore, I do not advocate for the complete cessation of substance use unless it aligns with your personal goals. I believe the path to becoming your best self involves discovering your own beliefs, acting on your core values, and making consistent progress toward the person you aspire to be (AKA ‘Doing the Work’).

In our work together, I will challenge your beliefs, hold you accountable for your actions, and support you in making the changes you desire. Through this process, we will work towards your best self, including figuring out how you define that, every day.
